Charity Quilt Raffles

A much anticipated feature of every Broward Quilt Expo are the raffles of beautiful quilts crafted by the sponsoring guilds to raise funds for their favorite charities. Raffle tickets will be available from the guilds directly and at the expo.  Some of the drawings will take place on the final day of the expo.  This is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to win an heirloom quality quilt, and to benefit worthy causes.

South Florida Modern Quilt Guild

We will be raffling our quilt to benefit  Girls Club, Fort Lauderdale.

Our quilt is called Beach Blanket Improv, and it is a group quilt made using improvisational piecing techniques.  It was created as a challenge for the national modern quilt show Quiltcon in 2016 and was displayed at the show in Pasadena in February 2016. We used a color palette that was dictated as part of the challenge, and our inspiration was Florida sunsets.  Our members created blocks by cutting and piecing without patterns, using their own vision of a sunset. The blocks were pieced together by members during a workshop, when we also created a improvisationally pieced backing, using large pieces of fabrics in the color palette. It was free motion quilted by Patricia Auten.  Size: 73 x 84 inches.

Our raffle is limited to 500 tickets, and the suggested donation is $5. Tickets are available from guild members now, or at Broward Quilt Expo. You may also contact the guild to participate online.

West Broward Quilt Guild

West Broward Quilters’ Guild has chosen Blessings in a Backpack as the recipient for the proceeds from our quilt raffle.  Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization that mobilizes communities, individuals and resources to feed school children in the United States who currently are fed during the week on the federally funded Free and Reduced Meal Program, and are at risk of going hungry on the weekends.  The local ministry facilitating this program allows the public elementary school children to receive a backpack and food to take home with them on weekends, and strives to provide this for a year at a time.

Raffle tickets for this Charity Quilt are available for a donation of $1 for each ticket, or 6 tickets for $5.  They can be purchased from any guild member, and will be on sale during the 3-day quilt expo, where the quilt will be on display.

Our quilt, Venetian Glass, was assembled by guild members, and quilted by Linda Wilson.  The quilt measures 90 x 110 inches, and is considered a king-sized quilt.
