The Southern Stars Quilt Guild is the southern most of the five Broward County guilds, and serves quilters from north Miami-Dade to central Broward and beyond. The Southern Stars meet the third Monday each month at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2919 Van Buren Street in Hollywood, Florida. The group kicks off with socializing and refreshments from 6:45 p.m. until the start of the meeting around 7:15 p.m.
The short business meeting is followed by a program, which might be something hands-on, a demonstration, a make-it-take-it, a lecture, or something else entirely. Programs are eclectic and always interesting. While the Southern Stars have refreshments every month, they also hold a pot-luck banquet at the end of their fiscal year in June, and a holiday celebration feast each December.
Among the activities that keep life interesting for the Southern Stars, in addition to an invigorating program each month, are block of the month, fat quarter drawing, name tag drawing, library raffle, show and tell, field trips to fun and fascinating places, intriguing workshops, mystery quilt, secret pal, an annual charity project (in addition to the BQE raffle quilt), and any other worthwhile activity someone cares to spearhead. We are a smaller, very active guild where everyone has a voice, and we welcome new ideas along with new blood - just keep it off the quilts!
