Quilt Entry Rules

1.       All quilt entries must be constructed of fabric and quilted by hand and/or machine.  No tied quilts or comforters will be accepted.

2.       No “cheater cloth” or preprinted quilts will be accepted. 

3.       No quilts previously exhibited in a Broward quilt show since March 2007 are eligible for entry. 

4.       Entrant names must be permanently attached to the back of the quilt.  Whipstitch a piece of fabric to cover the label.

5.       All quilts must contain a 4” sleeve at the top edge from which the quilt will be hung.  Bed-sized quilts must have the sleeve attached 86” from the bottom edge of the quilt so that the quilt will not touch the floor.

6.       Entries must be received in a cloth casing, such as a pillowcase, and this casing must be permanently marked with the entrant name, address, and phone number. 

7.       Entry forms are due by February 16, 2009. 

8.       Quilt Collection will be Thursday, February 26, 2009, between 2:00 and 7:30 P.M. at LOCATION PENDING.  Be sure to pick up your receipt for your quilt.

9.       Limit your Artist’s Statement to 50 words or less.  Excess language will be truncated.

10.   If the entry is shipped, the cost for return shipping and insurance is the responsibility of the entrant.  Please enclose a Pre-Paid Shipping or Mailing label for return shipping.  Please do not use foam “peanuts”!  Send parcels to:  Broward Quilt Expo, Inc.,

11.   Attach to the quilt entry form:  two, non-returnable, full-view, color photos of your entry for identification and insurance purposes. 

12.   No ribbons or awards may be displayed unless awarded at the current BQE show. 

13.   Judged Quilts:  A non-refundable entry fee, $10 for members of sponsoring guilds and $15 for all other entrants, must accompany each entry form.  Submit only one form per entry.

14.   Challenge Quilts, only:  Submit an entry form with the quilt.  The entry is free.

15.   Exhibit Only Quilts:  A non-refundable entry fee of $8 must accompany each entry form.  The quilts may be of any size.  All of the above rules apply. 

16.   Broward Quilt Expo reserves the right to refuse to hang any quilt that exhibits poor quality construction, has been misrepresented by the photos, is soiled or stained, or does not adhere to the entry rules and size restrictions. 

18.     Quilt entry pick-up will be after the show on Sunday, March 15, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. at War Memorial Auditorium.  You must have the receipt that you were give at Quilt Collection to pick up your quilt(s).

Category

Size and Description

Large Pieced 

Single maker and perimeter measures at least 280”

Small Pieced 

Single maker and perimeter measures between 96” and 280”

Appliqué

Single maker.  All sizes. 

Miniature

Perimeter measures no more than 96”

Mixed Techniques

Single maker.  Traditional or contemporary design that includes any combination of piecing, appliqué, trapunto, embroidery, stenciling, whole cloth, painting, etc.  May be any size. 

Two-Person Large

Any quilt made and quilted by two people.  Perimeter must be at least 280”.

Two-Person Small

Any quilt made and quilted by two people.  Perimeter measures between 96” and 280”.

Innovative Design

Single maker.  Entrant’s own creative design or original interpretation of a design.  May be traditional or contemporary.  May be any size.

Group Quilts

Any quilt top made by more than one person

Challenge

“The Shape I’m In.”  See Challenge guidelines.  Only open to the members of the participating guilds.

Children

Quilts can be of any type construction and size but must be made entirely by the child(ren) age 15 and younger
