Get Your Wedge Curve On

Instructor: Sherri Lynn Wood

Get your wedge-curve, mod-mood, groove on in this improvisational quilt-making workshop. Participants will commit one step at a time, as they explore advanced approaches to improvised patchwork and composition, develop a personal/intuitive language of color, and learn ruler-free, wedge-curve, piecing techniques.

All skill levels. 6 hours.

Modern Block Improv

Instructor: Sherri Lynn Wood

The goal of improvisational patchwork is flexible patterning. Participants will start with a favorite fixed or “traditional” block pattern and gradually transform it through a series of repetitions and variations. Without the use of rulers, templates or instructions to guide them, they will gain a deeper sense of how patterns evolve, while learning ruler-free patchwork and composition techniques along the way.

All skill levels. 6 hours.

Granny's Stars

Instructor: Nancy Mahoney

Star blocks, simple appliqué and yo-yo flowers make this traditional looking quilt a real beauty. Students will learn how to make the big block stars using Nancy's quick and easy piecing techniques. Fusible appliqué techniques and tips for making perfect yo-yo eye-catching quilt. Show on the cover of Fons & Porter's Love Of Quilting magazine, July/August 2009. Pattern included for each student. Finished size: 76 x 94 inches.

Skill level: Confident Beginner.  6 hours.

Ruler Free Strip Piecing

Instructor: Sherri Lynn Wood

Explore intuitive color, make narrative relationships, articulate your line, find your flow, discover your preferences as we experiment with three methods of choosing --random, spontaneous and planned, to create expressive ruler-free strip pieced foundations. The results can be utilized with stunning effect remixed in fixed and flexible quilt patterns, or other home and fashion sewing projects.

All skill levels. 3 hours.

Beginning EQ7

Instructor: Nancy Mahoney

Nancy designs all of her quilts using this versatile and user-friendly software. In this class, students will learn the basics of EQ. Nancy will show how to use drawing tools, EQ libraries, Block worktable, and Quilt worktable. See how to set blocks in a quilt layout, add borders, and audition fabrics.  Laptop computers for each student are encouraged. Students must purchase and install EQ7 prior to the class. Software and installation are not available during the class.

Skill level: beginner. 3 hours.
